Stage Managers are one of the most important (and highest paid) positions in a theatre company. Before rehearsals, their job is to set up audition schedules, organize paperwork, and work with the producer and director at forming the production team. During the rehearsals, they set up schedules, attend weekly production meetings, and act as a voice between the director, producer, and design team. During the production, the director and producer step aside and the stage manager is in charge of the show! Everything from when to open the curtain, to how the crew carries out props, to all the of the lighting and sound cues are the full discretion of the stage manager. In this class, we will learn about how to set up a stage management notebook, how to organize and manage large groups of people effectively, as well as learn the technical aspects of theatre (lighting and sound), and how to call cues during a show. There will be an opportunity (TBA) for the students to practice their skills at a small show. This course is required for anyone who wants to enter the stage management intern positions in the spring production. Taught by Melissa Lamb.
